Community Spotlight: Ami Miller of Scenic City Neurotherapy

Written by

For Ami Miller, crying happy tears while celebrating her patient’s wins is a daily occurrence.

Ami is the co-founder and practice manager of Scenic City Neurotherapy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ami joins her husband and cofounder, Charles Miller, CRNA, to offer innovative treatment options like TMS and ketamine infusion therapy to people with treatment-resistant mental health and pain conditions.

Like Ami, you probably love to help patients reclaim their lives through private practice. But hanging a shingle is not without its challenges. Scheduling, billing, reimbursement, staying up to date on the latest science, and monitoring patient progress can all feel overwhelming to manage. After all, you didn’t go into mental health because you love paperwork and schedule Tetris.

In the ever-changing mental healthcare landscape, you shouldn’t have to brave the murky waters alone.

Hear from Ami and learn how you can use tech to drive better clinical outcomes in less time:

1) Keep patients engaged:

As a mental health clinician, you treat some of society’s most vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, patients often feel lost in a maze of fragmented mental healthcare.

They may see progress for a bit, but quickly lose motivation as they don’t feel agency in their own healing journey.

Keeping patients engaged—and intervening in a timely manner—is paramount to lasting progress. That’s why the therapeutic alliance between clinicians and patients is so important.

Ami says:

“Osmind offers an app that allows our patients to connect with us in a nonthreatening way.

They can reach out to us. They can track their own progress. They can journal, they can reach out to other patients through the Osmind community. And very importantly, they can file their bills through Osmind, which provides some financial incentive for them to stay on track and to stay engaged.

Text that says: "superbill submission: Enable your patients to file their superbills and potentially receive reimbursement." Also, a picture of a mobile phone with the Osmind superbill feature, with button that says "submit a claim" and a second button that says "set up insurance".

In the beginning, patients often have a hard time seeing that they have made ground—seeing that things have gotten better. By being able to measure their progress and show them how far they've come, they get to celebrate their hard-earned victories.”

2) Stay proactive rather than reactive:

Osmind lets you visualize your patient’s progress at a glance—like a pulse check for any patient at any given time. You can be notified about patients who aren't engaged and maybe slipping a little bit so you can reach out and offer more of a safety net. Automatic thresholds and alerts allow us to see patients who haven't engaged in a while. Osmind gives you the tools to be proactive and see who you need to call.

Text: Progress visualization: Stay connected to how your patients are doing through automated rating scales and threshold alerts" and an image of a laptop with Osmind's patient chart with colorful bar graph showing progress and thresholds.

“It's that connection to the patient that allows us to be better, more efficient providers. We're not wasting our time. We're not wasting their time. We are effectively being there for our patients.”

3) Use software that evolves with you and your practice:

Mental health clinicians have enough on their plate. Needing to learn a new software every few years to run your practice shouldn’t be a worry in your mind.

Ami says, “The thing that I love about Osmind is that I'm not going to have to adopt a different software into my office because Osmind is going to advance with us. Their team is very much on the spot ready to solve problems that maybe none of us knew existed and solve them in an effective and forward leaning way— which is really their entire roadmap. They're moving forward along with us. And that's what we need.

To know that the core of our practice is going to change and our software is something I’ll never need to replace is invaluable—financially as well as the time and energy cost to employees having to learn something new.”

Summary:

You’re trying to change the world, but you can’t do it alone. Osmind is built by clinicians for clinicians, meaning one more person fighting WITH you, not against you in this already challenging role.

You need an ally that evolves with you. An all-in-one swiss army knife that can:

  • Help keep patients engaged with progress visualization and a trusting community right on their phone.

  • Simplify billing, measurement-based care, and charting in one place.

  • Grow with you—Osmind is the platform for breakthrough mental health treatment and research, and is led by a team of scientists, technologists, and psychiatrists advancing new evidence-generating medicine.

“It's nice to have like-minded people when you are trying to change the world for all intents and purposes—we really are. We're trying to change the way mental health is perceived. The way pain is perceived.

To have anyone who's willing to be an ally with you in a fight like that means the world. It’s one less thing you have to fight against. And one more person fighting along with you.”
